LA4440 IC Audio Amplifier Circuit

Introduction:

The LA4440 is a dual-channel audio amplifier IC, popular for use in car audio systems and home audio systems. It can be used in both stereo and bridged mode to deliver high power output. In stereo mode, it provides 6W per channel, while in bridged mode, it can output up to 19W on a single channel. It also has low noise, low distortion and good thermal stability, making it ideal for audio applications. This is a 12-volt amplifier circuit diagram using the LA4440. This is a simple circuit diagram. This is a stereo amplifier. But now it is a mono amplifier in bridged mode. In stereo mode, it is 6+6=12 watts. But in bridged mode it is 19 watts. But in bridged mode, the IC heats up more. For this reason, we have to use a good quality heat sink. 12 voltage is the best voltage for this IC. Normally we can use 12 voltage batteries.

Pin Configuration:

  • Pin 1: Input for the left channel (stereo mode) or mono input (bridge mode)Pin 2: Ground
  • Pin 3: Input for the right channel (stereo mode) or mono input (bridge mode)
  • Pin 4: Positive supply voltage (+V)
  • Pin 5: Ground
  • Pin 6: Negative feedback connection for the left channel
  • Pin 7: Positive supply voltage (+V)
  • Pin 8: Negative feedback connection for the right channel
  • Pin 9: Output for the left channel (stereo) or speaker (bridge mode)
  • Pin 10: Output for the right channel (stereo) or speaker (bridge mode)

Circuit Configurations:

  • Stereo Mode:
    • The LA4440 operates as a two-channel amplifier for stereo audio output.
    • Each channel can deliver 6W of output to a speaker when powered with 12V.
    • Pin 1 is the input for the left channel and Pin 3 is for the right channel. The audio signals are amplified separately and routed through Pins 9 and 10 to drive two individual speakers.
  • Bridge Mode:
    • In this mode, the two amplifiers inside the IC work together to drive a single speaker, providing a higher output of up to 19W.
    • The left and right inputs (Pin 1 and Pin 3) are combined for a mono input, and the output is taken from Pins 9 and 10, connected across a single speaker.
  • Application Notes:
    • The LA4440 requires proper decoupling and bypass capacitors to minimize noise and stabilize the power supply.
    • Electrolytic capacitors (typically 2200µF, 470µF, and 0.1µF) should be used for filtering.

  • A heat sink is recommended to prevent the IC from overheating, especially in bridge mode where the power output is higher.
  • Ensure proper grounding to avoid hum and interference.
